March 6, 2010 - Day 208

I really don't have much to say about this style of painting because it is pretty simple to do. It starts with a pencil sketch over which I draw with a waterproof fine line marker. Once the ink is dry I erase all the pencils lines and then just color inside the lines with watercolor. It is basically like coloring in a coloring book.

When I look back over previous posts the days that have the most commentary are the ones where I was either depressing about my lack of artistic skills and vision or I had accomplished something amazing with my art.

These ink and wash paintings don't have those highs and lows to them because the technique is totally predicable. I know when I start what the final result will be so in a way I guess I find them kind of boring and uninteresting to create even though I like the way they look.

March 5, 2010 - Day 207

I like today's painting. It has a kind of retro postcard feel to it. I am almost inspired to create more paintings of tourist spots around the city. Almost.

March 4, 2010 - Day 206

This was a scene in Montana I believe that I liked. I have to admit though that I am not having as much fun creating these paintings as I was with the acrylic. They don't inspire me the way the other mediums did. I am going to continue on with it though because I think that it will be a good learning experience.

March 3, 2010 - Day 205

This is a scene from Macaulay Point in Esquimalt, BC looking towards downtown Victoria, BC. I was trying to make the sky look slightly cloudy but the ink lines in the sky are distracting and look like birds or something. Next time I would leave them out.

March 2, 2010 - Day 204

Went for a walk in the park today and saw this wonderful weeping willow tree. It was such a bright yellow green color that I had to paint it.

I was showing someone the paintings from my blog today. She isn't an artist or even a patron of the arts so she has a completely different viewpoint on what she finds appealing. Most of the paintings that I hated she loved. I wonder what she sees when she looks at the paintings that I don't see?

March 1, 2010 - Day 203

I am very unsure with this new style of painting. I found myself procrastinating all night because I didn't know what to paint or how to do it. I am finding this very hard and it is sucking the inspiration and motivation right out of me. Luckily I know by now that this just means that I am really stretching outside of my comfort zone. I know that this is just another type of artist's block to push through.

February 28, 2010 - Day 202

Another cherry tree lined street. It was hard separating the foreground tree from the background cherry trees. I not really sure how I could have done it differently to really show that separation.
