January 30, 2010 - Day 173

My perfume bottle caught my eye so I thought I would make it the subject of today's painting. I am very happy with the way it turned out. I really like the white background and the way the shadow turned out. I did this painting in a watercolor way with thin glazes of color. The only part of the painting that has thicker paint is the cap on which I was having difficulties.

January 29, 2010 - Day 172

As you can probably tell I have hit a creative slump. While I have been motivated enough to create my paintings of the day I have lost all motivation to actually write about my painting of the day.

January 27, 2010 - Day 170

This is a little cat ornament that I have had for years. I like the way the background looks against the dark chocolate brown of the ornament. To me it looks warm and inviting rather than cold and hard but maybe that's just me.

January 26, 2010 - Day 169

Got my groove back today! What a difference one day makes. Yesterday I didn't want to paint at all. Today I not only finished this painting but I started 2 others.

I like this painting mostly because it is a bowl of Rainer cherries - my absolute favorite fruit that is only available here for 2 weeks in August.

January 25, 2010 - Day 168

I am really happy with the way the bowl turned out. I painted the bowl in a watercolor technique of thin glazes of color and dipping the brush in clean water to fade out the color. The background and grapes were painted with thick paint.

I really have to get a different yellow. I just can't seem to get the super bright greens and yellows that I am looking for with the yellows I have on hand. Adding white to the yellow makes it chalky looking.

Finally had to give up on this one. I just couldn't get the color of the oranges right. It seems like all my yellows tend to lean towards the cool side rather than being warm yellows. Maybe that is just an excuse - I don't really know. All I do know is that I couldn't achieve the bright orangy/yellow of the highlight that would have really made the shadows pop.
