May 8, 2010 - Day 271

Ink & Watercolor on 250gsm Stonehenge 100% Cotton Vellum Paper

Well I didn't plan to paint a nude man tonight but that's just the way it turned out! As I was sketching this picture I really liked the way the form was taking shape so I decided not to put clothes on it. I thought it would create more questions like: why is there a naked guy standing in the middle of nowhere? Why does he have his hands outstretched? What is he feeling?

May 7, 2010 - Day 270

Once again I don't have much to say about the day's efforts. I think if I were to improve my contrast in my paintings that they would be a lot better but I really don't know how to do that. I think I am still very hesitant to make the colors dark enough. I have been having that problem from the beginning and I am finding it a hard habit to break.

May 6, 2010 - Day 269

I am having problems with my keyboard tonight so I can't write much. Which is good since I don't have much to say about this one.

May 5, 2010 - Day 268

I was very stuck today. There were lots of things I could have painted but there were just as many excuses not to paint them. "I don't have enough time" "I don't know how" "I won't be able to finish it in time" "I can't decide what to paint"

Finally I just did a rough pen sketch, colored it and called it done.

Not much to say about this painting tonight. I am sticking with the fantasy theme for the time being. I am also sketching these freehand and not using any reference photos to plan the painting.

May 3, 2010 - Day 266

Not much to say about today's painting but I find that I am really questioning my choice of artwork tonight. These doubts pop up frequently. Should I paint larger paintings or different subjects or use different mediums? Should I turn my paintings into jewellery or clothing or decorative items? Should I paint what is popular to increase sales or should I paint what I love and build a clientele? What do I need to do so that I can quit my day job and make my art my career?

Some days I waffle back and forth on the issue and can't decide what is the right path to take. Today's is one of those days.
